Breakfast on the go.

Good morning shiny happy people.

Meh! Sometimes I am really not a morning person. But that's fine. Breakfast is easily sorted with zero effort.

Mission lazy breakfast-
The night before follow these steps:
•Boil 2 eggs
•Put a piece of fruit in your work bag
•Put a herbal/green tea bag in a hot drink holder

That's it! In the morning- grab the eggs, pot boiling water in the cup and go.

Realistic motivation

"Lets be realistic here. You don't drop two jean sizes in one day. You won't lose fifty pounds in one month. You're going to binge out every now and then. You will go a day or two without working out. Your weight is going to fluctuate here and there. You're going to try new techniques, and they're not going to work. You're human. You're going to fail. But nothing great is ever accomplished without a few obstacles."

So keep going!!! :)

Weekend struggles

A lot of you all ask me the same question- how do you manage to remain clean and healthy at the weekends?

My answer this weekend is- I wasnt perfect myself. However, I didn't do as bad as I usually/could of done considering I was at a wedding and hungover on a Sunday.

Top tips:
•Eat healthily as far into the weekend as possible. Eg Saturday before going out try and eat clean for breakfast and lunch if dinner is out.
•Exercise. Do a quick intense 30 minute workout Friday after work / Saturday morning / Sunday (if no hangover / hangover allows).
•Don't lose the plot. So you want to drink and eat the same as your company- do it. Just don't go overboard, binge or order the worst thing possible.

Best tip:
•Forget about it. Don't beat yourself up about it afterwards. Drink plenty of water to flush it out, don't give up and be bad for the rest of the weekend and work out at the next possible chance- get back into a routine.

This weekend I had a wedding- therefore meal choice and alcohol consumption was not optional it had to be done ;)
I had a lovely weekend and ate some yummy food - and I don't regret one single thing.

I am back to being healthy today & even made some healthy choices yesterday with a hangover.

The wedding meal and desert- there was no way I was passing on this. It was amazing.

The hangover breakfast minus toast & butter, with lots of water and fresh juice.

Carrot and ginger juice with my wagamamas prawn curry with extra chillies!! :)

Evening hangover hunger pains got satisfied with some miso soup, this yummy salad and half of the sushi.

Gallons of water throughout Sunday and a 10 hour snooze had me feeling (nearly) fresh today, and I have eaten clean all day. 💪

Hope you're all back to another healthy week- especially if you had a fun weekend like mine!

Nandos- paleo style!

For anyone who hasn't been following my blog recently- I have now decided to go back to my former diet from when I was in my best shape. That is a meat eating and carb controlling dietary intake. I realised that the paleo diet seems to fit hand in hand with this, so that is what I am giving a go.

Read up on Paleo! Do a google search or take a look at #paleo on Instagram for some great pictures and recipes!

Eating out isn't too difficult with this diet, and my boyfriend seems to find it great that I am now eating meat again because I am more likely to want Nandos with him!

Last week we had this yummy platter from nandos- which fits in perfectly with my paleo approach:

A whole chicken, 5 wings, 2 corn on the cobs, macho peas and side salad split between 2 (with more to him- I was stuffed from all that meat!).

After 5 and a half days paleo I feel good, my belly is going down and I feel full of beans! Woohoo, it's working!

Anybody got any feedback on paleo? Recipe ideas? Feel free to share! :)

Food Diary

A lot of people ask me for tips on eating clean and staying on track. The one thing I always always advise - is to keep a food journal.

I write down every single thing that I have to eat, including any drink that isn't water (therefore has calories), every day and every week.

I find that writing down your food teaches you a lot about your diet and where to make improvements. It shows you where you need portion control, at what time of the day you are at you weakest or hungriest- and from that you can adjust, amend and improve. 💪

When I say portion control I don't just mean making your meals sizes smaller: keeping a food journal showed me that at some times I can slip into undereating & having a typical "dieting" mentality. Which is not good, I avoid undereating like the plague.

I aim to eat 3 times a day. Healthy and clean food with nutritional benefit.
I also like to plan ahead & enter tomorrows food, I find that this helps me to keep on track and not snack.
However if I am hungry one day, I will snack- I will never make myself go hungry just to stick to my journal. I listen to my body, and eat when I am hungry- within reason & healthily.

I am human, and I do have treat meals. I also do slip out of my healthy mind set, especially on a weekend, even more so if its a weekend with alcohol involved. But I will still complete my journal and use it as encouragement and motivation for a healthier cleaner week to detox out the bad bits.

Give it a go, keep a journal and see if it helps you in the same way it helps me.
Let me know how you find it.

I have some people send me there food journals for me to advise improvements and give feedback. I can do that for you also, or find a friend who wants to do this with you.

Just remember to be careful to focus on being healthy and not "diet", also be careful not to develop an unhealthy obsession over the journal. It is just a way of keeping track of your intake & reflecting on how to improve or stay on track- a positive and teaching tool.

Bare minerals supplies

I am in love with my make up bag now! I went shopping with one of my closest friends and came home with a WHOLE BAG full of goodies!

My favourite is, of course, all of my bare minerals make up. I also got some of the cleanser and moisturiser. I love love LOVE it! And so does my skin!

Bare minerals is chemical free, and promotes itself as treating your skin at the same time as being a make up.

I can't wait to stock up again and eventually have every single product that they own. Haha. A new addiction has been born! 😊

Giving paleo a go go!

Happy October all :)

As I mentioned in a previous post- I majorly lost the plot and was eating gross food and not exercising.

I realised during this time that I had changed my diet type this year, to one a bit more restricted, yet I wasn't in my best shape and didn't lose as much (fat) weight as intended.

I love that old saying- 'if it ain't broken- then don't fix it'. So, with this in mind, I am returning to the type of diet I had when I was in my best shape.

Please note- when I say diet, I am referring to my dietary intake and not a diet that I am following, I am not on a diet, I am finding my best suited dietary intake for my life.

• I am returning to eating meat if I want it
• Cutting back on grains hugely after reading into the negatives of them
• Low carb intake
• Avoiding processed food always
• Only good carbs eg sweet potato & brown rice - definitely NO pasta & white bread
• A more relaxed approach

After speaking to one of my closest friends Emma, I realised that how my diet used to be isn't far off paleo. Emma and her partner have been following paleo for a while and both find it to work for them.
Unintentionally, my diet used to be paleo (I had never heard of paleo at that point) so I am looking forward to going back to it and hopefully getting in good shape.

There are lots of diet approaches, but only a few will suit a person. Lets see if paleo suits me.

So what is paleo?

I won't be able to eat that much meat- and I don't want to. But I will be following the back to original food groups and 'eating the way nature intended'!

I will let you all know how it goes!
Let me know if you've tried it? Love it? Hate it?

October <3

Hello there October!

I am welcoming October with new goals, new challenges and a new approach.

I am letting go of the worries and pains of September, and remaining positive & excited for the good things to come.

I am quitting smoking- Stoptober is in full force.

I am clean eating, positive thinking and all round healthy living this month.

I am detoxing out my binge (caused by worry and stress) and as soon as my 2 week rest period is over- I will be back to exercising and getting my fitness levels up to where they should be!

Challenge yourself this month.
Do something new! Try a new food, a new diet approach, a new gym class, go for a run- anything. Mix things up a bit- have some fun!

Let me know how it goes.

We can do this 😘

Subway salad

Now I'm not going to make a habit of it, because I am going to start prepping my lunches again, but check out my lunch!

I walked into a few shops after turning my nose up at the staff canteen & couldn't find anything clean and nutritious anywhere! What my work needs is a massive salad bar nearby. But there isn't one. Except at subway. So that's where I went, and instead of a sub I had a salad bowl.

It was actually soooo yummy & filled me up with fresh crunchy goodness.

I ordered a turkey breast bowl, no dressing, with extra pepper :)

It's got me in the mood for salad lunches all week! The freshness felt good after surviving on carbs for the last few working days (not good- I know)!

Then at 3.15 I had an organic raw bite fruit and nut bar- cashew flavour. Nom!

All washed down with 1.5 litres of water so far today.

Hope you're having a good clean day too, SoFit xxxxxx

Return of the blogger

Ladies & gents- I am back!

I have been eating junk food & lots of carbs. I have put on 5lbs. I am out of shape.
I am admitting it and I am going to work on it! I will not give up!

I always turn to food as a comfort, and due to some worries I have had I have been eating like a trooper! NOT ANY MORE!! Lets get back to it!

I can't work out for 2 weeks- doctors orders! But that is not going to stop me from eating clean and sorting my life out!

Bring on the nutrients! Bring on the goodness! Bring on the health!

No one wants to look like a big round snowman before its even started snowing!

Have a good week all!

Cod and salmon dinner

I absolutely love fish! I could never go without it. Especially if on holiday by the sea- mmmmm fresh fish!! :)

The boyfriend was round at mine last night and we are both being clean and healthy so we had fish (him salmon and me cod) with lots of veg and salad.

I chopped up some fresh chilli and garlic and sprinkled it onto the fillets with a dusting of chilli powder. Wrapped up the fillets into parcels with baking paper. Then popped hen into the oven on 180 for 25 minutes.

I served mine with mixed leaves, peppers, olives, jalapeños and broccoli, sugar snap peas, celery, green beans and fresh peas.
Alex had mixed leaves and green veg with his.

Yummy yummy in our tummy!!

Hoping you're all having a good week! :)

My goodies :)

I really had to restrain myself when I found the organic health shop near where I was working yesterday. I walked passed and read the sign, and before I know it I had a basket in hand half filled with organic healthy goodies.
I stocked up on my favourite pulsin raw protein bars & found so many other makes doing similar things. There was also a lot of similar products to the nakd bars that I am a massive fan of.
I ended up with one if every brand of bar in my basket- then had a quiet word with myself and selected a few instead.

Please don't ever, ever replace a meal with a processed thing in a packet - always make yourself something fresh and nutritious. But do keep products like this handy- they are perfect for a pre gym snack, or to fulfil a craving without breaking the clean approach.

I'm going to try this one later today before the gym tonight- I've been looking for this brand for a whole after seeing a lot t Instagram fitspo people posting about then from other countries.

These organic raw bars sounds perfect too?

Now- just to remind myself that these are going to last a looooong time! And I am not to have one a day! Willpower switched on!

If anyone has any other brands to recommend let me know :)

New organic cooking goodies!

I worked an extra shift yesterday (Sunday) in Islington, district nursing. I love I earn extra pennies- although I think I spent half of what I will be paid for the shift in an amazing organic health shop I found!

I am so excited to try all of my goodies!

I bought this amazing baking mix- perfect for muffins, pancakes, bread and cakes! So be prepared for lots of new recipes!
The mix is made of Quinoa, Teff, Brown Rice, Flax and Chia. Even better- it is gluten free! :)

Now, I knew all of those ingredients- except Teff! What on earth is Teff?
Please imagine how happy I was to find out that it is an amazingly nutritious grain- then multiply that by 100! (I was very happy!!)

So- What is Teff?

☮ Teff leads all the grains – by a wide margin – in its calcium content, with a cup of cooked teff offering 123mg, about the same amount of calcium as in a half-cup of cooked spinach. It’s also an excellent source of vitamin C—a nutrient not commonly found in grains—and also a good source of iron. Teff is high in resistant starch, a newly-discovered type of dietary fiber that can benefit blood sugar management, weight control, and colon health. It’s estimated that 20-40% of the carbohydrates in teff are resistant starches. A gluten-free grain with a mild flavor, teff is a healthy and versatile ingredient for many gluten-free products.

So there we go!

Recipes to follow!

Have a good and healthy week :)
